About Sirte University

The university was founded as a branch of the University of Garyounis (now known as the University of Benghazi) in the year 1989. In 1992, it became an autonomous institution and was then known as Al-Tahaddi University but was later re-named as Sirte University in 2010. Since it gained its autonomous status, the university has been continuously expanding and has become one of well-recognised higher education institutions in Libya. Starting off with a few schools and academic departments, the university has at present 15 different Faculties on and off-campus in different cities Harawa, Marada and Zamzam and with a total number of students of 13409. The university currently employs about 1046 full-time teaching staff and 40 are contractual foreign employees from Arab and non-Arab countries. The university also employs 1603 non-academic staff in different departments and offices across the university. The university is also trying to enhance self-learning and research culture among its students by building a new and comprehensive library with more than 100000 resource materials .

Furthermore, Sirte University runs a number of scientific and research centers that serve the educational process at the university. The most important of these centers are: The Languages Centre, the Renewable Energies Center, The Center for Community Service and Sustainable Development, the Research and Consultation Center, the E-Learning Center, the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Center, and the Information Technology Center .

In the field of international cooperation, the Sirte University is considered to be one of the leading universities in opening the horizons of cooperation with many universities and international institutions. The University has many agreements for scientific cooperation with many Arab, regional and international universities, the number of which exceeded 64 agreements. The university also has scientific partnerships in many funded international projects from the European Union, according to Erasmus + framework, one of these projects is a project related to capacity building in the field of media, another in the field of renewable energies, and another project is in the field of health management and other projects. In addition to that valuable collaboration with the German DAAD Foundation through two projects, one of which is related to digital transformation and the other is related to climate change .
