Tabriz Islamic Art University was established in 1999 following the important speech of the Supreme Leader of Iran during the meeting with the members of the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution (SCCR) regarding Islamic art and after the approval of the Higher Education Expansion Council in the buildings donated by the Supreme Leader of Iran (formerly known as Khosravi Leather Factory).
Tabriz Islamic Art University has been recognized as one of the most prominent universities in the field of Art and Architecture and has been selected successively three times as the highly-ranked University among Art Universities in Iran. Considering the university’s academic and artistic capabilities, it has been known as the first third-generation University and an entrepreneur in the field of Art at the academic level. Some of the disciplines were founded for the first time in the country. The most highlighted areas that our institute is acting on are the restoration and strengthening of historical monuments along with several categories in the field of Art and handicrafts, including Glass, Pottery, Wood Arts and Crafts, Metal Arts and Crafts, Carpet design and production, etc.The University is equipped with several art workshops for the use of modern educational methods to meet the specialized, applied and skillful needs of students, as well as to enhance their knowledge and professional skills.

The Historical context of the university
Another important mission of Tabriz Islamic Art University is to preserve, repair and rehabilitate some of the historical monuments of the metropolitan city of Tabriz. Hence, the university proceeded to purchase and restore old buildings and use them as faculties. The central campus of the university, which used to be the Khosravi leather factory, was the first factory operated in the history of Iran's industry. This site was founded in 1934. The electric generator of this plant is the first Iranian industrial generator in history, built in 1935 in Leningrad, Russia, and its six-cylinder diesel provided electricity to some parts of Tabriz. It was restored by the staff and the student of conservation and restoration in 2014 and is located in the students' food court and the Sports hall.
Maghsodiyeh Mansions is a big complex registered in the Iranian National Heritage list (no. 1850 and 7498 dated Feb. 12, 2002). It consists of seven historical houses called Ghadaki House, Behnam House, Ganjei zadeh House, Sadaghiani House, Architect Ali Tabrizi (Gohariyon), Professor Reza Memaran (Javaherion) and Najafgholi Khan (Ghaffarian).
