NFC Institute of Engineering and Technology Multan was established in 1985 to cater the needs of technological trainings of National Fertilizer Corporation of Pakistan with the technical collaboration of M/S COSMO Japan. The activities of the institute were diversified in 1994 in line with the education policy of Government of Pakistan and was upgraded to the first dedicated engineering institute in southern Punjab with engineering degree programs offered in affiliation with Bahauddin Zakariya University Multan. NFC IET Multan introduced Chemical Engineering program in 1994. In 2001, two more engineering disciplines i.e. Electronics Engineering and Computer Engineering were added. A 4 year Computer Science program was introduced in 2008 to cater the growing need of information technology, followed by a 4 year Environmental sciences program in 2011.
In 2012, NFC IET Multan was awarded charter of federal degree awarding institute and Prof. Dr. Malik Akhtar Ali Kalrou took over the charge as Vice Chancellor of the institute. Under his dynamic leadership, the institute launched following programs,

• Bachelors in Chemical Engineering Technology
