Nature and Goals of the Program



The Respiratory Care program aims to provide an excellent learning opportunity to prepare students to work clinically as respiratory care practitioners. They deliver care and treatment to patients experiencing respiratory difficulties or diseases, starting from the emergency room and intensive care to home care. The program equips students with the ability to build their skills from basic to advanced levels in respiratory care, enhancing continuous professional as well as developing their capabilities in management, leadership, and research excellence in the professional field. Respiratory therapist are integral members of the healthcare team responsible for diagnosing, monitoring, and treating patients of all age groups (adults, children, newborns) with cardiac and respiratory problems. They provide care and treatment for critical cases and chronic diseases utilizing life support and artificial respiratory devices in emergency departments, intensive care units, and hospital wings. Additionally, they participate in diagnosing and monitoring patients through lung function measurement labs and rehabilitation labs. Respiratory therapists contribute to clinical decision-making processes, such as patient assessment, selecting appropriate treatment plans, evaluating treatment effectiveness and educating patients, and assessing and treating sleep disorders. They are also involved in preventive programs and health promotion for individuals and the community.
