The Kore University of Enna (Università Kore di Enna, or UKE) was established by the Italian Government as Free University on 2005. It is not governed by the State or by other public bodies, from which it receives only small contributions. The UKE is based on private and self financing based on incomes of the scientific activities and student fees. The Kore University is based in Enna, a small but ancient city, situated on the top of a mountain of more than 900 m asl, so that it is the highest province capital in Italy and one of the highest in Europe. Enna is the geographical center of Sicily. And since Sicily is in the heart of the Mediterranean, UKE crosses equally north and south, east and west of the world. The University of Enna named after the goddess Kore. According to the Greek-Roman mythology, Kore was abducted by Hades and taken underground while collecting flowers near Enna. Then Jupiter allowed her to return to her mother Demetra (or Ceres) once a year, each time thus returning Spring to Earth.
The Kore University of Enna is one of the most appreciated Italian universities. According to surveys conducted in an anonymous form by the AlmaLaurea Consortium in Bologna, UKE is among the first places in Italy for the high level of teaching and the quality of educational facilities.
The Kore University of Enna offers various undergraduate, master’s and phd courses covering both the humanistic and the scientific as well technological fields. Among the Italian private universities, only the Catholic University of Milan and Rome presents the same varied offer as the UKE. The University has four Departments (Engineering and Architecture; Business and Law; Psychology and Social Sciences; Education and Foreign Languages)
