Located in the Albanian municipality of Durrës, the Aleksandër Moisiu University of Durrës (UAMD) was first opened to students as recently as 2006. Unlike other Albanian universities, teaching at UAMD is based upon the American model. The university has a main campus and then two newer campuses, one of which is located in Spitallë and covers 55 hectares. Around 17,000 students are enrolled at the university in total.
