Architectural Institute in Prague (ARCHIP) is the only architectural college in Central Europe to offer both Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes in English. The teaching staff at ARCHIP consists of acclaimed professionals from home and abroad, including, for example architecture popularizer Adam Gebrian or well-known architect Robert Votický. The programme of the school is based in studio instruction which follows the principles of the Vertical studio model which means that, in each studio, students from different years are combined and work together on a single site and program.
School in general – what makes ARCHIP unique
1. Diversity of experience
During their studies at ARCHIP, students may spend a semester in each of the five different studios, all of them led by acclaimed practicing architects. In this way, students are confronted with a wide range of methods of practice as well as with varied theoretical approaches encouraging them to find their own style. Furthermore, students are taught classes such as graphic design, photography, product design and other crafts based courses designed to help them succeed in their future careers.
2. International Environment in a Familial Atmosphere
ARCHIP is a temporary home to students of more than 30 nationalities. Thanks to that – and a strict limit of 30 students per class – the school boasts a uniquely familial atmosphere and team spirit. Out teachers work closely with their students – vast majority of our master modules offer regular 1-on-1 consultations. This helps our students find their own path and further aids them in unlocking their full potential.
3. Focus on Practical Training
All of our studio leaders are acclaimed and practicing professionals. Using their mentors’ current projects as an example, students get the opportunity to face challenges from real architectural practice. The rest of our teachers are recognized experts in their own fields as well, helping our students get a well-balanced study experience.
4. Career Prospects and Future Opportunities
ARCHIP has partners among municipalities, architectural firms, NGOs and developers from all over the world, and collaborates with them on a number of projects. Thanks to this outreach, our students gain not only practical experience but also valuable connections that may help them improve their career prospects.
5. Location
ARCHIP is located in Prague 7, an up-and-coming trendy district just a short tram ride from the historical centre. Prague itself is a modern metropolis with a rich history and an exciting cultural life. It is a lively yet very safe and affordable city with a large expat community. Our home is DOX+ which is a new addition to the DOX Centre for Contemporary Art, one of the most important institutions of its kind in the Czech Republic. Our students are thus encouraged to combine architecture with a number of other artistic forms from sculpture to new media.
