With the 85 years old of honorable history Azerbaijan State Agricultural University (now ASAU) is the only higher education institution in the country preparing specialists for agricultural sector, which plays an important role in the development of non-oil sector and converting “oil capital” into “human capital”. While awarding the university with “The Medal of Honor” in 1980 the national leader of Azerbaijani people Heydar Aliyev said: “Azerbaijan State Agricultural Institution (now ASAU) should not prepare just highly-qualified specialists, it should also be the main center of the scientific research of agricultural development in the republic”. Taking this idea into consideration, our university aims to prepare global competitive specialists, who are able to enforce the demands of economic development strategy, including food security concept of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Since its foundation (1929) the university, which was the studying or working place of the academicians such as Hasan Aliyev, Imam Mustafayev, Valide Tutayuk, Aghakhan Aghabeyli, Mammadtaghi Jafarov, Yusif Mammadaliyev, so called “the poet of independence”- Ahmad Javad, prepared up to 60 thousand specialists for different fields of agricultural sector. The activity of the university is based upon the principles of the state education policy such as humanism, democracy, equality, nationality and secularity, quality, efficiency, continuity, unity, constancy, legacy, liberalization and integration.
