The Azerbaijan Tourism and Management University (ATMU) is a public university established by a decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on 22 December 2014. Previously known as Azerbaijan Tourism Institute, the university’s flagship tourism programme was launched in 2006. ATMU is affiliated with the State Tourism Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan and is the key academic institution educating tourism professionals in the country.
ATMU’s mission is to equip our students with the competencies and create a learning culture they will need to be successful in the ever-changing labor market. Our vision is to create the next generation of leaders, who can help their organizations achieve service excellence and be champions of sustainable development in their respective fields.
By specializing in tourism and management, ATMU prepares its graduates for rewarding careers in the field of tourism management within major business and recreation companies. ATMU’s range of academic programs include undergraduate, postgraduate, doctorate, and post-baccalaureate programs, all of which promote a culture of excellence with a strong emphasis on science. An education at ATMU also combines solid theory with practical application.
ATMU aims to provide an excellent education for its students and to prepare them for the international and domestic job markets. We also aim to establish sustainable partnerships with international and local employers to expand the employment opportunities of our graduates. The university has a strong relationship with the business industry. When the time comes to apply for internships, studying at ATMU gives you an advantage. We have a range of initiatives including internship opportunities and a careers and employability advisory service.
ATMU is committed to a continual improvement process in higher education. One example of the university’s dedication to service quality is the successful adoption of ISO 9001:2015 - Quality Management System standards by ATMU’s Tourism and Hospitality faculty in November 2019. The faculty underwent a successful audit process by DNV GL, a global quality assurance and risk management company, and was awarded the certificate for the preparation of specialists in the field of tourism and hospitality.
On May 25 and 26, 2023, the representative office of DNV AS of the Kingdom of Norway in the Republic of Azerbaijan conducted a certification audit on the standards of ISO 21001:2018 - Education management at the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality of Azerbaijan University of Tourism and Management. Azerbaijan University of Tourism and Management, which successfully completed the audit, received a certificate for the ISO 21001:2018-Education management standard in the field of "Preparation of planning in the fields of tourism and hospitality and social management". Simultaneously, ISO 9001:2015 - Quality Management System standards has been renewed by DNV AS in January 2023.
Azerbaijan Tourism and Management University has been also successfully passed the UNWTO.TEdQual audit of the Tourism Educational Programme which entitled Master in Tourism and Hospitality and Bachelor in Tourism and Hospitality. The certifications were issued and were valid until March 2023 in recognition of its quality in tourism education for all effects and purposes. ATMU also applied and passed successfully for recertification for the next three years and is currently waiting for the diplomas.
ATMU is the first university in Azerbaijan to have successfully implemented a dual degree program. Launched on July 4, 2007, Azerbaijan-Austria Tourism Programme is implemented in partnership with the Austrian IMC FH Krems University of Applied Sciences. Under the terms of this academic contract, students are taught fully in English for three years through the Tourism and Leisure Management Program.
Launched on September,2023, Tourism Work proqram is implemented in partnership between Turkiye Eskishehir Osmangazi University and ATMU. Bachelor students participate as 2+2 format (2 years ATMU, Azerbaijan and 2 year ESOGU, Turkiye)
Throughout the years, ATMU has established numerous contacts with various European universities under the Erasmus+ Program of the European Union. ATMU has gained the opportunity to further develop its curriculum through knowledge exchange with its partners.
ATMU is ranked in 12th row among 50 Azerbaijani universities by AD Scientific Index Ranking System.
The university has two campuses located in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. The campuses have safe and welcoming study locations for both international and local students.
