Program Details

The world is racing toward net-zero emissions and that means big changes in how we produce and deliver energy. Clean technologies like wind, solar, hydropower, nuclear and carbon capture are all part of the solution. But it’s not just about generating low-carbon electricity, we also need to build out the grid—fast. That means more transmission lines, smarter distribution systems, and better ways to manage how and when energy gets used and stored. A Bachelor of Engineering in Sustainable and Renewable Energy Engineering puts you at the center of this transformation. You’ll learn how to create and integrate new energy technologies and how to think critically about the systems that make them work on a global scale.

Streams

Bachelor of Sustainability and Renewable Engineering students choose one of two streams:

·  Stream A: Smart Technologies for Power Generation and Distribution:  emphasizing the electrical engineering aspects of the energy sector, this stream is ideal for students interested in electrical engineering and its applications in modern power systems.

·  Stream B:   Efficient Energy Generation and Conversion:  emphasizing the mechanical engineering aspects of the energy sector, this stream is ideal for students interested in how energy is generated, transformed, and used efficiently in real-world systems.

Labs and Facilities

Students have access to state-of-the-art labs where you can explore cutting-edge energy technologies—from solar panels and battery systems to fuel cells and combustion research. You’ll also work with one of Canada’s only large wind tunnels designed for advanced wind energy research. It’s the perfect environment to explore both onshore and offshore renewable energy solutions.

Co-op

Carleton offers students a paid Co-op option with work terms of 4, 6, 8, 12 or 16 months.

Work Experience

Ottawa is home to one of Canada’s largest concentrations of government agencies and high-tech companies.
