The Department of Peking Opera is the department that is devoted to Chinese traditional theatre. Taking the educational philosophy of the school: “building a solid foundation and emphasizing practice", and following the art principles of Peking Opera, the Department is developing its four-fold teaching structure of “Teaching, Research, Innovation and Practice” in order to develop innovation-oriented talent for Peking Opera.
Now the Department of Peking Opera has 15 students, 15 guest teachers and 9 full-time teachers. Among the teachers, 5 of them are professors, 6 are first national-ranking actors and 4 are second national-ranking actors. 6 of them have won gold prizes at national-level contests.
The Department runs two programs: Peking Opera Acting and Music Instruments of Peking Opera. A number of renowned and experienced musicians are invited to teach in the Department.
