About Central Bicol State University of Agriculture

The Central Bicol State University of Agriculture is a premier QS 4-STAR public agricultural research university located in Pili, Camarines Sur, Bicol Region, in Luzon's southern main island. It was founded as a learning institution in 1918 as a farm school that provides rudiments of modern farming to high school students. With the changes in names and mandates brought by time and necessity, the farm school evolved in 1982 under Batas Pambansa Blg. 198 into the Camarines Sur State Agricultural College (CSSAC), an agricultural college tasked to provide tertiary agriculture education and generate and disseminate agricultural technologies. Later known as the regional research center and the seat of regional and research and development, which facilitates providing necessary research leadership. By 2000, the university expanded into three campuses to Calabanga, Pasacao, and Sipocot places in other districts of the province. The new name installed its mission and vision of expanding its more responsive and cohesive academic offerings with its seven colleges in Pili Campus, four colleges in Calabanga, four colleges in Sipocot, and one college in Pasacao. All of its campuses have community ties that hasten and boost the extension and linkage function of the university to generate and disseminate technologies to aid rural development. Each campus develops its niche program based on its community context and local needs. Celebrating its 100 years of flying colors, CSSAC becomes CBSUA under RA 9717.

The new name expanded the agricultural university to new frontiers as it remained a key provider of research in agriculture, environment, and technology development. As one of the leading agricultural universities in the Philippines, Commission on Higher education recognized CBSUA as a Center of Development in Agriculture and Education. It is also one of the awarded SUCs of National Universities and Colleges for Agriculture and Forestry. The institution was also CHED-accredited to offer Master's programs in Animal Science, Plant Science, and Plant Protection major in Entomology and Plant Pathology. These programs comprise 25 baccalaureates, seven masters', and two doctorate programs. Of the accreditable programs, one program is AACCUP Level IV, 22 programs are AACCUP Level III, seven are Level II, one is Level I and two are candidates. The BS Fishery in Calabanga Campus and BS Environmental Science in the three campuses were recently added. The Vice President for Business and External Affairs unit was created in 2019 during the reorganization of the university. The unit intensified the internationalization endeavors of the university. It developed strategies that address the challenges of internationalization of research and education for greater synergy and opportunity.
