About CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru

CHRIST (Deemed to be University), began as Christ College in 1969 offering undergraduate programmes in Sciences, Humanities, Social Sciences and Commence. From 1992 it began offering masters programmes in Social Sciences and Sciences, and Management. It was the first Institution in Karnataka and one of first 14 in India to be accredited by NAAC in 1997. It also became the first college in Karnataka to be granted Autonomous status by UGC in 2004. It was the first Institution in South India to be re accredited with NAAC A+ Grade in 2005. In 2006 it was accorded the College with Potential for Excellence status by UGC. Based on the quality of academics at the Institution, past performance, and future potential, the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India conferred the status of Deemed to be University   on the Institution vide Notification No. F. 9-34/2007-U.3(A) dated 22 July 2008.


Primarily a liberal arts Institution, CHRIST (Deemed to be University) offers 53 Bachelor, 53 Master, 19 MPhil and 23 Doctoral programmes in Humanities, Social Sciences, Sciences, Commerce, Management, Law, Engineering, Architecture and Education to about 22793 students from all the states and union territories of India and 58 other countries.  The University publishes six peer-reviewed research journals and has published more than 300 books in Kannada and English.


Apart from being ranked well since 2007 in almost all higher education raking surveys, the University has also been ranked 301+ in the Times Higher Education University Impact Ranking 2019. In the raking it is grouped in 101–200th for Quality Education and 201–300th for Gender Equity, globally.

 

With ‘Excellence and Service’ as the Vision, the University is actively involved in community development through student involvement. The University has slum and rural development projects with a focus on women and children in the city of Bangalore, in the states of Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh directly benefiting over 10,000 families. The students and staff of the University sponsor the primary education of over 900 students in the slums of Bangalore annually through voluntary contribution
