Datta Meghe Institute of Higher Education and Research (DMIHER – DU) was granted the status of Deemed to be University by University Grants Commission (UGC) on May 24, 2005. It was awarded an 'A' Grade status by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD), Government of India, in May 2013. Subsequently, it was categorized as a 'Category-I Deemed to be University' by the University Grants Commission's (Categorization of Universities only) regulations in 2018.

DMIHER is a multidisciplinary University situated in the peaceful rural setting of central India, Sawangi (M), Wardha, and an off-campus at Nagpur. There are 15 constituent units that offer 262 Undergraduate, Postgraduate, Super-specialty, Diploma, Doctoral, post-doctoral, and Fellowship programs across 13 Academic disciplines. There are 8 NABH-accredited teaching hospitals with 2700 beds, which impart primary, secondary, and tertiary care to the central rural India with a 12% tribal population. It is known for its extensive community healthcare and outreach initiatives, with a strong community-academic partnership. The University has won 3 BC Roy Awards, the National Award for ‘Institutional Social Responsibility’, and numerous recognitions from National and International Organizations, Regulatory bodies, and Research organizations such as WHO, WFME, AMEE, NMC, DCI, NCISM, UGC, NAAC, ICMR, DST, and DBT. It has strategic collaborations with 189 National and International organizations of repute, 199 Labs for Academic training, research and development, Diagnostic and Clinical services, and 5 Centers of Excellence. Till date the University has published  15,000+ research articles with cognizable number in Q1 journals, 140 patents registered and 235 patents published.

The University has undergone four cycles of NAAC reaccreditation, achieving the highest grade in all cycles, with the most recent being A++ (CGPA 3.78) in its fourth cycle, the highest amongst all HSUs in the country. DMIHER has consistently maintained its position in the top 100 HEIs in the National Rankings and Accreditation Framework (NIRF), with recent rankings being 84th in Overall, 49th in University, 20th in Medical, and 36th in Dentistry. The University is one of the five leading organizations in Research output in the country and has recently been granted funding by the MoH&FW, GOI for establishing the Multidisciplinary Research Unit.   Datta Meghe Institute of Higher Education and Research (DMIHER), Wardha, serves as a national Technical Resource Hub for Evidence Synthesis under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, leading high-quality, GRADE-based systematic reviews and mentoring TRCs to support India’s evidence-based health guidelines. It has been ranked in the 1001-1200 band in the THE World University Rankings 2026 and 44th Nationally. In TIMES impact rankings for SDGs, DMIHER is placed in the top 100 HEIs in SDG 3 and SDG 5, depicting its strong commitment to sustainable healthcare and Health Professions.
