About Dokuz Eylul Universitesi
Founded on July 20, 1982, Dokuz Eylül University (DEU) aims to contribute to societal development by cultivating and bringing intellectual talent to the country across a broad spectrum, ranging from healthcare to economics, and from arts to engineering. Our university established its first Application and Research Centers in 1987 and has continuously enhanced its contributions and services in education, practice, and research through a diverse and dynamic network of centers. Aligned with its multidisciplinary structure, these centers operate actively in fields such as Health Sciences, Natural Sciences and Engineering, Marine Sciences and Maritime Studies, and Social Sciences.
In 2021, Dokuz Eylül University successfully became one of the universities designated as a "Research University" under the Research-Oriented Mission Differentiation Program conducted by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK). In 2022, the Technology Development Zone (TGB-1) within the university’s central campus was expanded from 17,370 m² to 27,631 m² by adding 10,261 m². Furthermore, as Turkey’s first health-themed technopark, the Balçova-based TGB-2, operating on a 10,487 m² area, was further enhanced with an additional 6,061 m² (TGB-3), increasing DEPARK’s total contribution to the healthcare ecosystem to 16,548 m².
Committed to excellence in leadership, governance, quality processes, education, research, and societal impact, Dokuz Eylül University initiated the Institutional Accreditation Program by the Higher Education Quality Council in 2022. As a result, it was awarded full accreditation by YÖKAK until 2027, reinforcing its determination to achieve excellence and confidently advance into the future. Strengthening its internationalization efforts, Dokuz Eylül University enhanced its excellence journey in 2024 by obtaining the "HR Excellence in Research Award" from the European Union. This achievement marked the university's full integration into EU research principles, further advancing its global recognition and securing significant advantages for international collaborations.
DEU benefits from its strategic location in the city of Izmir, a hub of cultural, economic, and educational activity in Türkiye. Izmir is located at the crossroads of Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East and is known for its mild Mediterranean climate, multicultural social life, and strong economy. Izmir is also home to six state universities and two private foundation universities.
DEU has academic collaboration projects established with 87 universities from 32 countries, and Erasmus agreements with 356 universities. It has a strong commitment to internationalization, and in 2018, it was selected as one of the 20 pilot universities by the Turkish Higher Education Council (YÖK) for implementing the internationalization strategy.
In 2024, as part of a cooperation protocol signed between the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), Dokuz Eylül University was selected as one of seven pilot universities tasked with training the tourism managers of the future.
Today, Dokuz Eylül University operates across 19 different campuses throughout İzmir, maintaining a strong commitment to high-quality, pioneering, and impactful services in education, scientific research and development, internationalization, and community engagement. The university comprises:
