Founded in 1816, Mines Saint-Etienne is France’s oldest elite school of engineering outside Paris, andthe fifth oldest among France’s 220 « Grandes Ecoles ».
It is today a research-intensive graduate school of engineering science and management, part of Institut Mines-Télécom (IMT), the number one group of engineering and management graduate schools in France, under the supervision of the FrenchMinistry in charge of Industry.
Mines Saint-Etienne’s campuses are located at the heart of two majorFrench metropolitan areas and economic regions: Saint-Etienne and Lyon-Charbonnières in the Lyon Saint-Etienne metropolitan area and Auvergne Rhone-Alpes Region, and Gardanne in the Aix Marseille metropolitan area and Provence Alpes Cote d’Azur Region.
With 430 staff overall, 1100 students, 14 Master of Science paths and 10 Doctoral disciplines, it combines a human size, a high staff-to-student ratio and a broad range ofdisciplines and research domains addressed by its 5 "Research and Teaching Centres" (departments), allowing everystudent to tailor his or her personal training path and career project in a highly international environment.
In 2018, Mines Saint-Etienne was the second French Grande Ecole to be awarded the “Certificate for Quality in Internationalisation” by the French “Commission des Titres d’Ingenieur”,member of the European Consortium for Accreditation. In 2021, its national "DD-RS" certification for sustainable development and corporate social responsibility was renewed, with the highest score (4 out of 5) in the "research" category.
Bachelor level admission is exclusively through dedicated French national exams or double degree agreements with partner universities.
Master level admissions for international students are encouraged either through one of our 22 double-degree agreements with partner universities worldwide or via direct application to one of our 13 Master of Science programs (7 fully taught in english) or 5 advanced vocational Master degrees (https://www.mines-stetienne.fr/en/academics/)
