About Fatima Jinnah Medical University
Fatima Jinnah Medical College for women was established in 1948. The institute was elevated to the status of Fatima Jinnah Medical University (FJMU) on 1st July, 2015. The transition from a medical college to medical university has been a landmark event in the history of the institute.
Professor Khalid Masud Gondal (Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, Presidential Pride of Performance) is the current Vice Chancellor of FJMU. Multiple hospitals & colleges are affiliated with FJMU. Sir Ganga Ram Hospital (SGRH) with 954 beds capacity, Government Teaching Hospital Shahdara (GTHS) with 200 beds capacity and Government Mozang Teaching Hospital (GMTH), with 50 beds capacity, fall under the institutional ambit of FJMU. In addition to FJMC as a Constituent College, the College of Nursing SGRH, College of Nursing, Shahdara and a Paramedical School GTHS for Allied Health Sciences, have also been affiliated with FJMU.
The affiliated teaching hospitals have also been accredited by Pakistan Medical & Dental Commission (PMDC) and College of Physician and Surgeons, Pakistan (CPSP) in 2017. With fully functional Examination Department, Registrar Office, Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) and Offices of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) in place, the university has streamlined execution of its strategic plans.
It attracts the best talent not only from Pakistan but all over the world and countries of SAARC region as well. Its faculty consists of eminent professors and distinguished specialists, who are committed to the highest standards of teaching, training, research and service delivery. The alumni of FJMU are pride of institute serving in the country and abroad.
The University is offering post graduate Programs in nineteen different disciplines including fellowship (CPSP) and Masters (MD/MS)/ M.Phil. Programs. The university is also running Certificate in Health Professional (CHPE). The Journal of FJMU is HEC recognized Y category Journal, it is also recognized by SCOPUS, Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) and WHO. The Institutional Review Board has been registered with Office of Human Research Protections (OHRP) which is a part of HHS and NIH USA . The university and its hospitals have provided unprecedented services during Covid-19 pandemic, dengue outbreak, earthquakes and recent floods in the region.
