Fergana State Technical University (previously known as Fergana Polytechnic Institute) is an educational institution specializing in engineering education and is one of the top five higher education institutions in Uzbekistan. The Institute was established in 1967 on the basis of the Fergana General Technical Faculty of the former Tashkent Polytechnic Institute. During the years of independence, the university was the only higher technical educational institution in the Fergana Valley. The Faculty of Engineering and Economics is the main educational area of the university, training qualified engineering personnel for the development of Uzbekistan's economy. The institution conducts scientific research in the fields of mechanical engineering, construction, engineering, economics, chemical technology, energy, light industry, and computer science.
History
With the development of industrial potential of Ferghana Valley, establishment of leading enterprises, growth of production capacities, the shortage of engineering and technical personnel, especially among the local population began to be felt. Therefore, on June 14, 1967, by the Decree of the Ministry of Education of the Uzbek SSR № 251-a it was decided to create an independent higher educational institution on the basis of the Fergana branch of the Tashkent Polytechnic Institute. In particular, several buildings belonging to the 8th Construction Trust, as well as Fergana Oil Refinery and Azot Production Association were allocated for reconstruction and re-equipment for this purpose. In the first years of the University's existence, there were about 70 teachers, 3 of whom had the degree of Candidate of Technical Sciences. Nowadays there are more than 682 of them 33 doctors of sciences and 229 candidates of sciences.

Fergana State Technical University trains highly qualified personnel in the fields of mechanical and machine-building engineering, power engineering, architecture and civil engineering, information technology and telecommunications, chemical technology, light industry and textiles, production accounting, management, and administration. The ultimate goal of the university is to become an internationally recognized and accredited higher education institution by making a global contribution to national and international sustainable development, to enter the TOP-200 universities by 2030 through the consistent expansion of international academic exchange programs, and the development of innovative joint educational and scientific programs, as well as to establish itself as a leading educational institution in the Commonwealth of Independent States and Central Asia in areas such as machine building and mechanics, energy, architecture and civil engineering, food and agricultural product processing technology, textiles in light industry, digital technologies, and artificial intelligence.
