George Emil Palade University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Science, and Technology of Targu Mures (UMFST G.E. Palade Tg. Mures) has been functioning under this name starting with 20.09.2018, as a result of the merger of two Romanian prestigious state universities from Tîrgu Mureș, the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Tîrgu Mureș and „Petru Maior” University of Tîrgu Mureș.

George Emil Palade University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Science, and Technology of Targu Mures (UMFST G.E. Palade Tg. Mures) brings together the competences of the two universities that fused, being a prestigious public multicultural and multilingual institution of higher education and research.

It is composed of six faculties: The Faculty of Medicine, The Faculty of Dentistry, The Faculty of Pharmacy, The Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology, The Faculty of Sciences and Letters “Petru Maior”, The Faculty of Economics and Law in which graduates of study programs can benefit from different levels of academic degrees: bachelor, master’s, doctoral.

UMFST G.E. Palade Tg. Mures provides instruction in the following fields: medical, pharmaceutical in Romanian, Hungarian and English, technical, economic and social fields in Romanian (engineering, economics, law, philology, history, administrative science, mathematics, information technology, socio-pedagogy).

UMFST G.E. Palade Tg. Mures is a comprehensive university with over 11,000 students. The difference lies in the fact that UMFST G.E. Palade Tg. Mures has a special profile, being developed on the structure of a medical-pharmaceutical education with many fields that support it. At UMFST G.E. Palade Tg. Mures, medico-pharmaceutical education has a tradition of over 70 years, being a regional brand in the country that has been increasingly recognized internationally. At present, 800 international students from 51 countries are studying at UMFST G.E. Palade Tg. Mures.

After Babeș-Bolyai University, UMFST G.E. Palade Tg. Mures is the second multicultural university in Romania that offers education in Romanian, Hungarian and English.

UMFST G.E. Palade Tg. Mures is the only university in Romania that has a medical branch outside Romania, having accredited medical study programs in Hamburg, Germany.
