The GITAM : Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management, a Category – I Deemed to be University got established in the year 1980, as an Engineering College, by a group of eminent Intellectuals,  Industrialists & Philanthropists under the visionary leadership of Dr. M.V.V.S. Murthi with the objective of promoting “Quality Higher Education” in  Multi disciplinary areas viz., Architecture, Engineering, Humanities, Law, Medical, Management, Paramedical, Pharmacy,  Physiotherapy, Public Policy, Nursing, Sciences etc.,

            It has been an eventful journey for GITAM since establishing GITAM Institute of Technology in 1980 at Visakhapatnam, the City of Destiny. A number of institutions have been added over the years viz., GITAM Institute of Management (1988), GITAM School of International Business (1997), GITAM Institute of Science (2006) and GITAM Institute of Pharmacy (2006). In August 2007, GITAM was declared as a Deemed to be University u/s 3 of the UGC Act, 1956. Responding to the expanding industrial and societal needs in diverse fields of knowledge, GITAM established Centre for Distance Learning (2009), GITAM School of Law (2012) and GITAM Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (2015). Over the years, all of them have positioned themselves as premier institutes in Teaching, Research & Consultancy and Extension activities.

            Along with its impressive progress in the academic arena, the University has expanded its geographic spread with the establishment of Hyderabad campus in 2009 and Bengaluru campus in 2012, in the industrial hubs of the state capitals of Telangana and Karnataka respectively. All the three campuses are established in beautiful places, blessed with abundance of natural scenery, exuberant festivity and blissful solitude. The campuses are endowed with world-class infrastructure and well-equipped laboratories together with excellent student support services.

Today, GITAM finds a place among the top universities in the country in terms of its Teaching, Research & Consultancy and Extension activities. The three picturesque campuses of GITAM have 21 Institutes, 64 Departments and 16 Research Centers. These departments cater to the needs of nearly 22,000 UG & PG Students and about 2500 Research Scholars. The University has well qualified and committed faculty numbering about 1600 in the three campuses put together. Most of the faculty members have research and industrial background and more than 50% of them have Ph.D qualifications.

            GITAM’s high standards are well recognized by multinational companies in IT, Banking and other sectors across the country. The University is proud to place on record that it has achieved almost 90 percent placement in some of the programmes through campus recruitment. The students from GITAM University pursuing higher studies are preferred for admissions into reputed national and international universities.

             The research and consultancy expertise of the University is often translated into tangible benefits to the industry and the community. In order to strengthen the application of information and communication technology in academics, research and administration, the University has established a sophisticated data centre with a super-computer. The centrally air-conditioned library known as Knowledge Resource Centre (KRC), has been modernized by adding e-learning centre and internet facility.

Recognizing the holistic education and well round personality development of our students, the University is imparting, the Ministry of Human Resource Development MHRD / MOE, Govt. of India, has classified GITAM as a “category - I” University among universities of its kind. The University is accredited by NAAC with ‘A++’ Grade. The University Grants Commission has accorded 12(B) status & 2(F) status to the University facilitating grant of research funding. GITAM Institute of Technology, one of the constituent units of the University, has been sanctioned TEQIP-II program for implementation of various developmental activities. The Department of Science and Technology (DST) has provided financial assistance under Fund for Improvement of S&T Infrastructure (FIST) programme to several academic departments in engineering and science for strengthening infrastructure in laboratories. These recognitions are symbolic of the University’s commitment in maintaining high standards in teaching, research & Consultancy and Extension activities.
