Hainan University

Hainan University (HNU) traces its origins to 1958, when it was established to support China’s natural rubber industry. It is now jointly administered by the Ministry of Education and the Hainan Provincial Government, and is part of the country’s “Double First-Class” initiative. According to ShanghaiRanking, it was the fastest-rising university in China from 2019 to 2022. In 2025, 27 of its disciplines were ranked among the Best Chinese Subjects. The university has achieved rapid, high-quality growth across all areas.

Hainan University has 35 secondary schools, 16 residential colleges, 16 first-level discipline doctorate programs, 2 professional doctorate programs, 37 first-level discipline master’s programs, 28 professional master’s degree programs, 78 undergraduate programs, 10 centers for post-doctoral studies. It covers 11 major discipline categories, including philosophy, economics, law, literature, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, management, art and interdisciplinary studies.
