IIT Bhubaneswar is an Institute of National Importance established in 2008 and one amongst the family of Indian Institute of Technology. The IITs are known for their global class of education and today IITan has become a global brand. Though started nearly a decade back the institute has came up in the standards of IIT raring to find itself amongst the top ranking institution of the world. Several innovative initiatives have been taken at the institute on raising global class faculty, fostering teaching-learning excellence, infrastructure building, collaborative research, entrepreneurship and start-up activity. The institute also taken serious efforts to make campus Eco-friendly by massive Plantations, promoting cycling culture, Energy-Harvesting Initiatives, Water-Harvesting Initiatives, Green Buildings initiatives and Eco-friendly Waste Disposal systems.
Pedagogical System:
The institute believes in providing holistic education to its students, with the objective of shaping them into positive and well‐rounded personalities with excellent technical/scientific knowledge, good health, social sensitivities and a good individuals. Pedagogical practice includes class room teaching, strong laboratory practice, industry internship, thesis work, multiple seminars and self work assignments. The system also uses technological assistance including video courses and MOOCs. Emphasis has been put on the following:

Academic Programmes:
At present there are 7 schools offering the academic programme. The academic programmes presently run by the institute include B.Tech. programmes in 6 branches of Engineering (Computer Sciences, Electrical, Electronics & Communications, Mechanical, Civil, and Metallurgical & Materials), 5‐year Dual degree programmes in 9 disciplines, M. Tech. in 10 specializations and MSc in 5 disciplines (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Geology and Atmosphere & Climate Sciences) besides Ph.D. in almost all the disciplines.
Research & Development Activities:
There has been considerable growth in R&D related activities and funding over the years. Till date, a total of 150 research projects and 121 consultancy projects have been executed/ being executed by the faculty members of the Institute. The total worth of research and consultancy projects received so far is around Rs. 30 crores in the last 2 years.
Research Publications & Patents:
During the last three years, the Institute faculty members/researchers published more than 878 research articles including, research papers in high impact journals; several Book‐chapters and a few books; 205 papers were presented in various national and international conferences in India and abroad as indexed in the Scopus. Besides the Institute also filled 28 patents.
