Despite Covid-19, KBSU continues to enroll students for bachelor's degree programs online. In 2020, the university celebrated a beautiful date - the 88th anniversary of its foundation. Founded in 1932 as a pedagogical institute, the first higher educational institution of the Kabardino-Balkarian republic, was transformed into a university in 1957, and since then the range of its educational and scientific competencies has been steadily expanding. Currently, Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after Kh.M. Berbekova (KBSU) is one of the largest modern classical universities in the North Caucasus Federal District: in terms of the number of educational programs of higher and secondary vocational education, additional education and vocational training programs; by the volume of research work; by the volume of the property complex.

Today KBSU is a multidisciplinary educational and scientific complex with a highly developed infrastructure and modern material and technical base, which makes a worthy contribution to the economic, social, scientific and cultural development of the republic.

The role of the university in the preservation, accumulation and augmentation of the cultural, moral and scientific values of society through the formation of a scientific and innovative environment, the training of highly qualified personnel and the intellectual elite.

About 17 thousand students from 40 countries study within the walls of our university, and graduates of the university successfully work in enterprises of the real sector of the economy, in educational institutions, science, culture and other areas. Many of them hold leadership positions in government bodies.

As part of the educational process of young people at the university there are 8 creative teams, 6 sports sections and more than 37 student organizations and club formations.

The Elbrus educational and scientific complex of KBSU is located in one of the most picturesque places in Russia - in the Elbrus region, in the village of Elbrus, at an altitude of 1850 meters above sea level, in the middle of a pine forest. Here at the same time, in good living conditions, about 200 people can rest.

But this is not only a resting place. The University actively participates in the implementation of state policy in the field of environmental protection, national projects "Education", "Science", "Ecology", "Health" and "Culture", as well as in state youth policy, therefore the complex includes educational and scientific, cultural and recreational blocks.

Every year, about 30 major educational, scientific, educational, cultural and socially significant events are held here: conferences, symposia, meetings of student activists, health camps, plein airs and exhibitions.

The graduates of the Director's workshop of A.N. Sokurov, which existed at KBSU from 2010 to 2015.

The workshop was graduated from Vladimir Bitokov, Beslan Zakuraev, Marianna Kazancheva, Maryana Kalmykova, Kira Kovalenko, Tina Mastafova, Malika Musaeva, Oleg Khamokov, Gadzhimurat Efendiev, Kantemir Balagov, Anzor Dokhov, Alexander Zolotukhin.

Already in 2015, the works of the students of the workshop were presented at the 68th Cannes Film Festival.

The sports achievements of university students are widely known: KBSU student Arsen Galstyan became the Olympic champion in judo at the Olympic Games in London (2012).
