During this programme students will develop their critical thinking and analytical skills while learning how to use new research to support their clinical role. Applicants are required to have a Postgraduate Diploma in Midwifery to join this course, and to be a registered midwife. This course is studied part time, allowing students to continue working in their clinical role. The dissertation is the only module on this course. It’s an opportunity to compare a current process with the guidelines and new evidence in this area to improve a service. Each student will choose his/her own project, which can be based on an element of clinical practice they’d like to improve or explore an issue that their employers has identified. Another option is to carry out a systematic literature review on a topic of choice. This course is project based and predominantly involves self study. Students may need to travel to London during their course to access the library or other facilities, but all of the core texts and articles are available online.
