The Molecular Genetics MSci focuses on the advances in the field of biology that studies structure and functions of genes and chromosomes to understand the processes and mechanisms of life from molecules to cells and organisms. This is also useful in study of developmental biology and aging and in understanding and treating genetic diseases. The course covers the broad range of genetics from the molecular basis of genes and genomes to evolutionary and ecological genetics. Students will have a chance to study abroad under this programme. This course forms part of the suite of ‘Common Year 1’ courses within the School of Bioscience Education. These comprise Anatomy, Developmental & Human Biology; Biochemistry; Biomedical Science; Medical Physiology; Molecular Genetics; Neuroscience; Pharmacology. In Year 2 students may also choose to study abroad at one of KCL’s partner institutions. The fourth year will focus primarily on research and project design skills, which will provide students with a strong platform should they decide to progress to a PhD or move into biomedical research in a commercial setting. Alternatively, after the ‘Common Year 1’ course, students can apply to transfer to one of our other four- year MSci courses which include Biochemistry MSci; Neuroscience MSci.
