The history of Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University (VNU) began in 1940. Currently, the University offers programs that provide qualification in the following areas: Arts & Humanities; Engineering and Technology; Computer Science; Life Sciences & Medicine; Physical Sciences; Social Sciences; Business & Economics; Psychology; Law; and Education. The structure of the University comprises 14 faculties, the Teaching and Research Institute of Physics and Technology, the Teaching and Research Center of Postgraduate Education, the Preparatory Department, 67 Chairs of the Faculties, and the professional academic staff. Another structural unit within the VNU is the College of Technology, Business and Law. The University structure also includes the Lesya Ukrainka Scientific Research Institute, the EU Information Centre, the Centre of Culture and Extra-Curricular Activities, and the “Trust” Centre for Volunteers.
The University offers Bachelor’s, Master's and PhD degree programs, which courses taught in Ukrainian and English, and it holds the fourth (the highest) level of accreditation from the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. At present, the University academic community consists of 750 employees, among them 95 are doctors of sciences/professors and 600 are at the Ph.D./‘candidate of sciences’ level. The University offers postgraduate courses in which post-graduate students can obtain doctoral degrees in 24 academic branches. There are five specialized research committees dealing with the defense of doctoral theses in seven research fields.
VNU is a member of the following major international academic institutions: the European University Association, the Eastern European University Network, the Baltic-Ukrainian Academic Consortium, the University of Warsaw and Ukrainian Universities Consortium, and the Border Innovation Clusters. Today we have cooperative agreements with more than 65 foreign partners.
VNU, as a classical university of Ukraine, provides high-quality educational services, and sustainable management and financial policies that stimulate the current forms of scientific and innovative activities. The University actively develops cooperation within the framework of the program of double degree diplomas. In general, our project proposals relate to research support for the preservation of the natural heritage and the formation of a position of awareness and active involvement in students.
Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University is one of the top 50 universities in Ukraine; it held tenth place in the 2019 Western Ukraine University Ranking and 37th place in the HEI Ranking in Ukraine.
