About Macao Institute for Tourism Studies (IFTM)

Macao Institute for Tourism Studies, Macao (IFTM), established in 1995, is a public institution of higher education in Macao that offers degree programmes and professional training in tourism and hospitality. IFTM offers degree and professional programmes in a wide range of tourism-related disciplines such as hospitality, tourism business, heritage, events, retail and marketing, leisure and entertainment, sports and recreation, creative and cultural studies, and culinary arts. The mission of IFTM is to become a leading higher education institution in tourism and service industry studies that equips students with professional knowledge and technical competence in preparation for their future leadership responsibilities in the industry. IFTM will continue to strive ahead in its quest of learning and educational innovation, fostering professionals and making contributions to the tourism development of Macao and of the Asia Pacific region.

Its two campuses offer outstanding facilities and services, including a training hotel and restaurant, where students can learn by doing, as well as demonstrations classrooms.

93% proportion of alumni said IFTM readied them for workplace. Majority of IFTM graduates are satisfied with the education they received.

Over 78% found work in the tourism and hospitality industry, while nearly 9% pursued further education.

The Macao Institute for Tourism Studies offers the following Degree Programmes:

IFTM sets up various scholarships and fellowships to encourage freshmen, current students and graduates/alumni to further their studies and participate in different overseas experience programmes so as to broaden their horizon. Find out more about scholarships here

Application Requirements of undergraduate programmes: 

Applicants with any of the following qualifications may apply for bachelor programme by Admission Examination:
Form 6 or equivalent graduates or candidates currently studying in Form 6 or equivalent or age 23 or above; Mainland Applicants (Mainland China ID card holders)
Applicants must be high school graduates who have attended the “National College Entrance Examination” (Gaokao) of the current academic year and have attained a score up to or above the university score line.
Priority of admission offer will be given to applicants with Gaokao scores reaching the premium university score line and Gaokao English score 120 or above.

Non-Gaokao students: Applicants must be current high school graduated studying in Mainland China or outside China following the international curriculum. Applicants have to submit academic documents for review and will be arranged for admission interview if necessary.

IFTM offers programs in a number of tourism-related disciplines including hospitality, tourism business, heritage, events, retail and marketing, leisure and entertainment, sports and recreation, creative and cultural studies, and culinary arts.

The Macao Institute for Tourism Studies’ Postgraduate Diploma (PgD) can be undertaken in either full-time or part-time formats.

If you’d like to complete the program full-time, the minimum duration is one year, or it must be completed in a maximum or two years. In comparison, those undertaking the part-time format have a maximum of three years to complete it.

PgD students can choose one of two tracks:

  • Hospitality/Tourism
  • Food and Beverage/Gastronomy

Modules on the program include:

  • International Hospitality and Tourism Management
  • Tourism Management
  • Hospitality Management
  • International Food and Beverage Management
  • International Gastronomy Management

It’s worth noting that PgD programs aren’t applicable for Mainland ID holders.

There are a number of admissions requirements for the PgD program, including applicants holding a bachelor’s degree in areas of hotel and tourism management, food and beverage management, recreation and leisure management etc.
