About Manipal University College Malaysia
Manipal University College Malaysia (MUCM), originally established as Melaka-Manipal Medical College (MMMC) in 1994, was initiated under the visionary ‘Look East Policy’ of then Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad. The institution was conceived to strengthen South-South cooperation in education, economy, and social development, aligning with Malaysia’s strategic goal of becoming a leading regional education hub.
MMMC became the country’s first Indo-Malaysian joint-venture private medical education institution, established with full endorsement from the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health. It benefited from the expertise of senior medical and dental educationists from Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), India, which collaborated closely to develop and align its medical and dental programmes.
The Faculty of Medicine welcomed its inaugural cohort in 1997, followed by the Faculty of Dentistry and Foundation in Science programmes. In 2020, MMMC was elevated to university college status and renamed Manipal University College Malaysia (MUCM). This milestone enabled the introduction of additional undergraduate programmes in Psychology, Occupational Therapy, and Physiotherapy, as well as postgraduate offerings including the Master of Science (Dentistry) and Master of Science in Medical & Health Sciences.
MUCM continues to demonstrate strong performance and credibility, evidenced by the following:
1) Accreditation excellence: The MBBS programme has consistently received the maximum five-year accreditation from relevant authorities on three consecutive occasions (2010, 2015, 2022), while the BDS programme was awarded a six-year accreditation in 2025.
2) Research leadership: MUCM hosts one of only four Cochrane Network Centres in Malaysia under the global Cochrane Collaboration.
3) Faculty excellence: More than 15 faculty members are FAIMER fellows, many of whom lead ongoing Faculty Development Programmes within the institution.

Monthly living expenses for a typical MUCM student usually range from RM 1,500 to RM 2,500, depending on lifestyle choices, accommodation type, and eating habits.
