Mendel University was founded in 1919. A public university, it is the oldest independent specialized institution in the Czech Republic, situated in Brno.The university has over 10,000 students and 600 academic staff and offers bachelor, masters and doctoral study programmes.It consists of five faculties and one institute:
- Faculty of Agronomy
- Faculty of Business and Economics
- Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology
- Faculty of Horticulture
- Faculty of Regional Development and International Studies
- and Institute of Lifelong Education.
The university is a member of Erasmus and ties with other universities within Europe and further afield.Mendel University is named after Gregor Mendel, the botanist and "father of genetics", who was active in this city during his lifetime.The university offers a range of student accommodation and sporting activities as well as a library and clubs.
