About MIT School of Film & Television

MIT School of Film & Television (MIT SFT) is located at Rajbaug, Loni kalbhor Pune, Oxford of the east and a cultural capital of India. The scenic sprawling campus, once the abode of legendary Indian filmmaker Raj Kapoor where his International acclaimed films were produced, continues to be replete with his spirit of inimitable artistry.
MIT SFT, the constituent of MIT Art, Design & Technology University, is the only film school in India that imparts film education along with presenting the learners, opportunities to review and exchange information in all aspects of art, design and technology. It encourages learning using vast range of media technologies and practices to understand, appreciate and broaden their perspective about artistic pursuits.

The programs are offered to promote creative thinking, encourage independent thought, initiative, innovation, problem solving and the development of wholesome personality as the students can earn elective credits from fellow institutes such as Vishwashanti Sangeet Kala Academy, Institute of Design and School of Fine Arts, in the field of Music, Dance, Creative designs and Fine Arts. The curriculum is delivered in Gurukul pattern (mentor and student) with a rich balance of cultural heritage of India and awareness of contemporary sensibilities of the young creative minds.

The students are encouraged to create their own idiom in performing arts by inculcating deep understanding of socio-cultural history of Film Making. The interdisciplinary Film and Media Studies curriculum promotes exploration of relations between media, power, and social justice. Our students investigate the themes related to power, human rights & development and self-determination, through creative and collaborative work. The students are initiated to a rigorous introduction to Film Practice through selected course work. This is followed by the phase where the students design and produces capstone project under the guidance of an MITSFT faculty mentor.

The film audiences of present times have choices to view content on a variety of digital media such as high definition smart phones which poses technological challenges of encoding and animation while maintaining sensitivity of art. Therefore films need to be well crafted right from the pre-production- screenplay writing stage. A Screenplay writer works hand in glove with Director of the film.
MIT-SFT curriculum is focused on practical training combined with theoretical knowledge, which makes participants socially aware, globally informed and aesthetically enriched filmmakers & technicians, confident in following their pursuits in the chosen specialization. The courses offered at MIT SFT develops “Film practitioners” with an analytical mind and holistic approach by gaining from the insights of several guest faculties, comprising of eminent filmmakers and technicians who visit the school and sensitize students with the ground realities of the film industry.
