Overview

Founded in 1989, National Cheng Chung University is home to seven Colleges: Education, Engineering, Humanities, Law, Management, Sciences and Social Sciences, as well as a state-of-the-art gymnasium, landmark library, the Center for Language Studies and the Ching-Jiang Life-long Learning Center.

Located in Chia-yi, Min-hsiung, students, staff and faculty members can get away from the hustle and bustle of Taiwan’s more urban campuses, and enjoy the serenity and openness of our 132 hectare campus.

At Chung Cheng University we’re dedicated to research excellence and command strong, interdisciplinary research capabilities in manufacturing, high-tech innovations, electrical engineering, information technology and biochemistry which coincide with the wide range of bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees and PhDs we offer. Although teaching is conducted in Mandarin Chinese, we also offer six exclusive English-taught master’s and PhD programs, including:

  • International Master Program of Educational Leadership and Management Development (ELMD)
  • International PhD Program of Educational Leadership and Management Development (ELMD)
  • PhD Program in Cognitive Sciences
  • International Master Program in Global Finance
  • Master of Science in Advanced Manufacturing Systems
  • Doctoral Program in Ambient Intelligent and Smart Systems


We’re also a member of the Taiwan Comprehensive University System, Chang-Yun-Chia University and College Alliance with excellent network connections to several other schools and universities around the world.

Our Library and Information Building is the landmark of the university. Growing eight floors high with over one million books and an audio-visual center which boats the most updated, high-tech AV equipment, students who come to study here can be sure of a modern and professional learning environment.

When it comes to athletics and sports, our state-of-the-art gymnasium is one of the most expensive constructions in southern Taiwan with two Olympic-sized swimming pools, a roller-skating rink, indoor rock climbing walls, sports courts for basketball, volleyball and badminton being just some of the facilities available for students and faculty to enjoy. Not forgetting the 20 fairway golf-course either!

Our student support system means that international students who come to study at Chung Cheng University are paired up with a local learning partner to help them adjust to studying abroad life. It’s also a great way to get to know the local culture and people.

At Chung Cheng University we have a thriving student life with students from 16 countries around the world representing 6 percent of our entire student cohort.

Students at Cheng Chung University have the choice to live both on or off-campus. The university has five student halls available for undergraduate students, and are designed to make students feel as at home as possible. There are laundromats available, as well as music rooms, computer rooms, and entertainment rooms. There are also reading rooms which offers students the private space to read and make friends with students from other countries. For postgraduate students there are five European-styled buildings that have been converted to dormitories, allowing you to study and live in a peaceful setting.

For students who live off-campus, we liaise with private landlords to ensure students and landlords are able to build a positive rapport. The Division of Student Affairs assesses lodging conditions in private student properties on a regular basis and ensures that regular appointments between the university faculty and students who live in private accommodation is done regularly.

Our student association hosts numerous events and activities throughout the year, as well as boasting a huge number of student clubs, teams and social groups. Our university library also arranges various workshops for art and culture.

As part of the application process you’ll need your graduation certificate, full transcript, two letters of recommendation, a signed copy of the ‘Declaration of Nationality Form’, validated financial statements, a study plan, and your language proficiency certificate (optional).

Cheng Chung University Scholarship
The Cheng Chung University Scholarship covers both tuition fees and living costs (according to annual budgets) with free on-campus accommodation all year-round. It’s awarded on academic merit and is reviewed at the end of every semester by the College-Level Scholarship Review Committee.

If you’re already a recipient of any Governmental Scholarship, you’ll be ineligible to apply for the Cheng Chung University Scholarship. To find out more, visit our website.

Elite Scholarship Program
The Elite Scholarship Program was setup by the Ministry of Education (MOE) to encourage lecturers from South and Southeast Asia to pursue a graduate degree in Taiwan. The Elite Scholarship Program awards students with a monthly stipend of NT$25,000 (~US$810) and is only running until August 2022.


Our dedicated Career Development Center helps strengthen the link between students and the world of work by providing students with career development support, organizes recruitment events and holds career planning and job search skill lectures.
