About National University of Modern Languages (NUML)

In the capital city of Pakistan there exists NUML, which is one of the largest universities of Pakistan. The University has its footprints in all the four provinces of Pakistan with eight regional campuses and branches. Although NUML specializes in linguistics and foreign languages across a broad spectrum, it also boasts of various academic disciplines in social, management, engineering and computer sciences. Besides offering academic programs, NUML is poised to become a leading institution in knowledge creation through research innovation and entrepreneurship.

The University has five faculties and thirty four departments to cater for the educational needs of more than 20, 000 students all across Pakistan. Being the leading languages institution in the country, it houses a large of number international students and faculty. The Main Campus in Islamabad is spread over 25 acres housing various academic blocks, research centers, centers of excellence, sports facilities and residential areas for the students.

NUML is contributing in creating knowledge with a local and global perspective while teaching 27 oriental and occidental languages in addition to providing education in five different faculties and a Confucius Institute. 

Faculty of Languages is comprised of Department of Urdu, Arabic, Area Studies, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Pakistani Languages (Punjabi, Pashto), Persian, Russian, South Asian Languages (Hindi), Spanish, and Turkish; there is Department of Translation and Interpretation. Besides offering academic programs, the Faculty of Languages provides External Examination, Translation and Interpretation Services to various national and international organizations. The Faculty also acts as an International Examination Center of Chinese, Korean, Japanese and German languages.

The Faculty of Arts & Humanities is comprised of Department of English-Functional Courses, Department of English-Graduate Studies and Department of English-Undergraduate Studies.

Faculty of Social Sciences has Department of Applied Psychology, Education, International Relations, Islamic Studies, Mass Communication, Pakistan Studies and Peace & Conflict Studies.

Faculty of Management Sciences has Department of Economics, Governance and Public Policy and Management Sciences.

The Faculty of Engineering & Computer Sciences is comprised of Department of Computer Science, Department of Engineering and Department of Mathematics.

The Confucius Institute was established on April 04, 2005 is the first in the Muslim World and oldest in Pakistan. It provides a unique academic environment for learning Chinese language and also conducting different level of HSK tests. The Institute has two departments, Department of Confucius and Department of Area Studies.

Research

University has a vibrant and well-grounded research program, offering MS/MPhil and PhD research programs with highly qualified PhD faculty. 

Research Goals of the University include:

·         Promote Research and Creative Work to Increase the Intellectual, Social, and Economic Capital.

·         Deliver highly competitive, rigorous, research-intensive academic programs.

·         Improve research quality, productivity and impact.

University publishes various research journals which include: Journal of Research in Social Sciences (JRSS), NUML Journal of Critical Inquiry (JCI), NUML International Journal of Business & Management, Al Basirah and Daryaft.

The newly established research hub is currently working in Ibn Rushd Block which houses all facilities of research, innovation and commercialization.
