ODISHA UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY AND RESEARCH

The Odisha University of Technology and Research, Bhubaneswar was formerly known as the College of Engineering and Technology, established in 1981 as an affiliated college of Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT), Bhubaneswar. In 2002, it became affiliated to Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT), Rourkela and in 2017 it was granted autonomous status. In recognition of its sustained commitment, dedication and significant contributions to professional education and research, the autonomous College was accorded University status in 2021 and renamed as OUTR by the Government of Odisha.

The University offers B. Tech and M. Tech. programs across fifteen major engineering disciplines, along with M.Sc. programs in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and Computing. In addition, it provides B.Arch., B.Plan., M. Plan., MCA and MBA programs. Further enriching its academic spectrum, the University offers Part-time and Executive Ph.D. programs for working professionals and industry experts, fostering advanced research and knowledge dissemination. At present, 145 research scholars are actively engaged in scholarly pursuits across diverse disciplines.

Sprawled across a picturesque 100-acre campus, OUTR presently nurtures a vibrant community of over 6,000 students across 15 departments, offering a rich blend of undergraduate, postgraduate and research programs in various branches of Engineering, Management Studies and Basic Sciences and Humanities. The academic portfolio encompasses regular, SSP, part-time and executive programs, reflecting the institution’s inclusive and dynamic approach to higher education. In its continuous pursuit of excellence, OUTR has recently introduced several forward-looking programs at the undergraduate level namely Computer Science (Specialized in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning), Computer Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering (Specialized in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics), Metallurgical and Materials Engineering and Aerospace Engineering. At the postgraduate level, Urban and Regional Planning and Master of Business Administration have been added, enhancing the academic spectrum and aligning with emerging global trends.We have also introduced M. Tech research programs across seven specializations in the departments of CSE, SLES and Biotechnology.

The university takes immense pride in its distinguished faculty fraternity, comprising a total of 239 faculty members - Professors, Associate Professors and Assistant Professors complemented by visiting faculty from reputed national institutions, adjunct professors from eminent universities and Professors of Practice from leading industries and professional domains. We have also inducted 10 adjunct faculty from reputed IITs and foreign universities. This rich intellectual ecosystem fosters a unique blend of theoretical rigour and practical insight, making OUTR a hub of contemporary learning. Many faculty members of our university are providing their service as expert members of different academic activities At present, the University is supported by a dedicated workforce comprising 41 regular non-teaching staff and 71 contractual personnel, who efficiently manage and sustain the smooth functioning of administrative offices and departmental operations.

In recognition of the rapid advancements in science and technology globally and with contemporary pedagogical approaches in mind, we have instituted a New Common Curriculum alongside a Common Academic Calendar across all programs, effective from the Academic Year 2023–24. This initiative has established a uniform standard of curriculum for all public technical universities in Odisha. The framework has been meticulously designed in consultation with key stakeholders, industry experts and academic analysts, aligning with the vision and objectives of NEP-2020. I wish to place on record my sincere appreciation to the SDTE Department, Government of Odisha, for their invaluable support and cooperation.

Our faculty and students are fervently engaged in cutting-edge research and the pursuit of patent registration, with the University actively facilitating their endeavors through financial support for conferences, travel, registration and provision of leave. As a result, we have witnessed commendable achievements across publications, patents, faculty development programs, workshops, expert lectures, MoUs, and industry–institute collaborations. These sustained efforts have borne fruit in enhancing our institutional reputation, reflected in our NIRF ranking. Notably, in 2025, OUTR secured a position within the 201–300 band in the Engineering category, underscoring our commitment to scaling new heights of academic excellence.

In the AY of 2024-25 our faculty published 400 papers in reputed journals, contributed to books and newspapers and authored 9 books. Two of our faculty members were ranked among the top 2% globally by Stanford University and 45 research scholars earned their PhDs under their guidance.
