Osh Technological University

Osh Technological University named after M. M. Adyshev (OshTU) is a public engineering and technology university in Osh, Kyrgyzstan’s second-largest city and the centre of the country’s south. Founded in 1963, OshTU prepares competitive, in-demand engineers, IT specialists and economists for Kyrgyzstan and the international labour market.

Programmes and institutes

OshTU offers programmes across six institutes:

• Institute of Innovative Information Technologies – computer engineering, software engineering, information security, information systems, big data analytics, telecommunications, mechatronics and robotics
• Institute of Energy and Transport – electrical and thermal power engineering, mechanical engineering, transport technologies and agricultural engineering
• Institute of Architecture and Construction – civil engineering, architecture, architectural environment design, interior and graphic design
• Institute of Technology and Nature Management – agricultural and food processing technology, chemical technology, applied geology, ecology, forestry and landscape design, light industry and fashion
• Institute of Economics and Management – economics, accounting and audit, management, logistics, business informatics and internet technologies
• Institute of International Relations, Law and Education – applied mathematics, linguistics and computational linguistics, law, international relations, vocational education, business management and social work

The university also includes the Kyrgyz-Chinese Institute, founded in 2026 with Laos Soochow University, and a humanities and technology college.

Learning by doing

Practical training is at the heart of study at OshTU. Students work in specialised laboratories, including an automotive diagnostics lab and an on-campus micro hydropower plant used for renewable-energy training. A green-construction laboratory was set up with Xi’an University of Architecture and Technology, and in October 2026 OshTU opened a Changan training workshop where students learn to diagnose and service new-energy vehicles. Cooperation agreements with regional power utilities and the Osh city administration give students access to internships, and the university’s business incubator helps them turn ideas into start-ups.

Global outlook

OshTU works with universities in more than 15 countries across Central and East Asia, Türkiye, the Caucasus, Russia and Europe. Since 2010 it has taken part in EU-funded Tempus and Erasmus+ projects with partners such as KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Lund University and Universitat Politècnica de València. A King Sejong Institute, a Confucius Classroom, an American Information Resource Center and a Russian Language and Slavic Culture Centre on campus help students prepare for study and careers abroad. OshTU is home to a large international student community.

Admissions for international students

International applicants can apply in two intakes each year (from 20 June and from 1 December). Programmes are taught in Kyrgyz and Russian, with selected programmes also offered in English. The academic year starts in September.

Student life in Osh

With a history of more than 3,000 years, Osh is one of Central Asia’s oldest cities and home to Sulaiman-Too Sacred Mountain, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is a lively, multicultural and affordable place to study. The campus offers a student dormitory, a library with electronic resources, sports grounds, a medical centre, a canteen, a prayer room, and creative spaces such as a recording studio and an art studio.
