The basic requirements for international students for both PHBS Shenzhen Campus programs (Management, Finance and Economics) and PHBS UK-Shenzhen Cross-Border programs (Management and Finance) are:
Graduated with a bachelor’s degree or higher
Be a non-Chinese citizen with a valid passport
Have a proof of English proficiency with a satisfactory TOEFL (90 and above) or IELTS (6.5 and above) score (not required for native English speakers)
PHBS has established 10 Research institutes to enrich the academic research and contribute to the future innovation. In addition to these institutes, PHBS provides an appropriate research environment for both students and faculty members with its financial lab’s large amenities. The Financial Lab is a resource for students of Economics and Finance to
track changes in financial markets the world over. The lab provides
resources for students to tap into current market trends, including a
Bloomberg Terminal, WIND, Eventus, Compustat, SRSP, and WRDS. Students
use their school login information to access this terminal, which is
linked to national and international financial databases.
In order to enhance the diversity of our student body, PHBS has created a school funded scholarship, specifically for international students. The scholarship provides qualified international students with strong academic and professional records with either half-tuition or full-tuition scholarship funding.
Student life
At PHBS, international and domestic students have the opportunity to participate in many events and activities on and off-campus. PHBS students can join a number of different professional or sports Associations on campus.
Peking University ranks 20th in the Global 500 of the QS Graduate Employability Ranking 2019, and it has the country’s highest score in the Alumni Outcomes indicator.

PHBS offers two-year full-time programs, all culminating with a final thesis and instructed exclusively in English.
With recognized master of Finance courses by the CFA Institute University Program, an EPAS accredited master of Economics and a global master of Management, PHBS aims to foster and empower students by allowing them to improve their critical thinking and analytical ability to challenge business problems and economic issues.
HSBC initially donated a large endowment to assist the school’s
establishment. Though there is no continued formal relationship between
the bank and the school, many of our alumni are working for HSBC
What does the school expect for prospective students?
PHBS will admit students who have good academic records at their
undergraduate and graduate institutions. The school also wants our
students to possess characteristics of business leaders, such as
excellence, an entrepreneurial spirit, and a global perspective.
Candidates applying to PHBS should embody such characteristics in their
application materials and display their advantages in the admission
interview.
Will the school grant students scholarships?
Yes, and we have two scholarships available.
- The PHBS Scholarship
A: PHBS offers scholarship to international candidates on merits related
to the candidate’s academic, professional, and extracurricular
performance. In 2020, we offer 64% of our admitted class half or full
tuition scholarships. The PHBS scholarship program does not cover any
living or housing accommodation expenses.
-The CSC Scholarship
A: The CSC Scholarship program offers students who want to study in
China a chance to receive generous scholarships. To learn more about

What types of jobs do international students find after graduation?
PHBS has a Career Services Office dedicated to helping students find
meaningful career and internship opportunities, and students have
started their professional career domestically and abroad in
international trading, financial analysis, and corporate relations. Past
students have received offers from Deloitte, Philips, HSBC, ING,
CitiBank, Towers Watson, General Electric, and Hay group, etc.
Can I take classes from other programs?
Yes, students may take classes of other departments at HSBC Business
School, but only two non-major courses will be counted toward your
degree. Some of the school’s elective courses are cross-listed in two or
more programs (for example, some courses can fulfill the requirement of
both the Economics and Finance major). PHBS students also have the opportunity to enroll in exchange programs in a large variety of universities.

In PHBS’s commitment to research, Nobel Prize in Economics winner, Professor Thomas Sargent, has joined PHBS to conduct research as the head of the “Sargent Institute of Quantitative Economics and Finance”.
