About Pontificia Universidad Católica de Puerto Rico

The Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico, as the name suggests, can trace its origins to the Catholic church, having been established by two bishops in 1948. Based in Ponce, Puerto Rico, the university originally consisted of just a few classrooms but has grown over time and now occupies 120 acres in the city. Most recently, it has opened a school of architecture.

As well as its main campus in Ponce, there are two additional campuses in Arecibo and Mayagüez and a satellite extension in Coamo. Students based in Ponce will have the chance to experience life in one of the busiest cities in Puerto Rico outside of San Juan.

In terms of employment in the area, it’s mostly known for its proximity to the country’s sugarcane industry, although retail, tourism and other agricultural sectors also contribute to the city’s economy. Away from their studies and work, students can benefit from the city’s rich range of cultural assets, including numerous libraries and museums. The city also hosts several cultural events and festivals throughout the year, including Ponce Jazz Festival and Ponce Carnival.
