Samar State University

            Samar State University (SSU) is an educational landmark of great importance to the province of Samar. It provides everyone with the opportunity to pursue higher education, which is essential for vocational proficiency for both individual and national development.

            In 2022, SSU was ranked 1st among the Philippines and world universities in the Fourth Industrial Revolution category by the World Universities with Real Impact (WURI) 2022. The University also finished in the Top 43 and Top 50 in the Industrial Revolution and Crisis Management categories, respectively. Moreover, it is one of the 17 awardees of the First Internationalization Award in the country, presented by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and the University of the Philippines-Open University (UPOU). As of December 2022, 89% of SSU’s programs were already accredited by the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP).

            Through Samar State University’s sustainability programs along energy conservation such as the retrofitting of buildings and installation of solar panels as an alternative source of power and the use of LED lights which resulted to reduced electrical consumption, the University was one of the two recipient SUCs of the Energy Efficiency Excellence Award on December 21, 2022. Furthermore, SSU was recertified by SOCOTEC for ISO 9005:2015 via remote evaluation along Management of Tertiary Educational System, Planning, Research and Extension Services, and College of Graduate Studies last November 18, 2022.

            The university also received for the third time since 2020 the recognition as Platinum Awardee and mentioned as qualified for the Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards by the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL). Additionally, SSU was the only Higher Education Institution (HEI) awarded with the 2022 Gawad Yamang Isip along Pangangasiwa sa Yamang Isip amd 2019 Top Patent Filer in the Philippines given by the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPhil).

            After passing the rigorous screening, Samar State University was officially recognized with Level II Proficiency in Quality Management in the 23rd Cycle of the Philippine Quality Award, making SSU the first State Universities and Colleges (SUC) in the Visayas and Mindanao regions to be PQA recognized.  The institution was also awarded with PRIME-HRM Bronze Award by the Civil Service Commission  and was recognized as the first SUC in Eastern Visayas and one of only four SUCs nationwide to receive the Bronze Award (National Level) with Maturity Level II through the Program to Institutionalize Meritocracy and Excellence in Human Management (PRIME-HRM) in 2018.

            SSU has been widely recognized, both in the local and international levels, as it strives to excellently deliver its commitment to innovate, build, and serve its students, faculty, staff, partner agencies, and all stakeholders across borders.
