Overview

Samara State Technical University was founded in 1914. The university’s structure includes 4 institutes, 1 academy and 13 faculties. University provides multilevel training (BSc – MSc – PhD) on a wide range of  areas and profiles for all industries in the region: energy, oil and gas, chemical and petrochemical, machine building, transport, food and defense sectors, sphere of information technologies, instrumentation, automation and control in technical systems, materials science and metallurgy, biotechnology, industrial ecology, construction, architecture and design.

More than 18 000 students study at Samara Polytech.

Samara Polytech has 55 international partner universities from Germany, France, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Turkey, Ukraine, Republic of Belarus, Republic of Kazakhstan and Republic of Azerbaijan. International students come from such countries, as Central and South Africa, Middle East and CIS.

Moreover, university has double degree programs with Lille 1 University – Science and Technology and South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences.

SSTU interacts with large enterprises and carries out scientific researches in the field of synthesis, as well as researches of the properties of substances and materials, machine building, ecology and technogenic safety, IT-technologies, mathematical modelling, chemical and technological processes.

Academic staff improves their qualification annually, including programs of leading Russian and foreign scientific and educational centers. Scientists and experts from Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Taiwan, Poland, UK and Argentina are invited as part of the cooperation in educational and scientific projects.

University’s social infrastructure is the system of necessary and available facilities and types of activities for full and efficient students’ living, which includes health care center, center for preventative medicine, health improvement camp, recreation camps and comprehensive support program for the poor students.

Samara Polytech has a developed campus:

Student life at Samara Polytech varies and is full of events. Apart from academic classes, scientific seminars and conferences, concerts, festivals and exhibitions are held regularly. Each student can count on employment assistance and social support.

Lots of student societies work at the university, which are open for most active and ambitious. You can make every effort and carry out your own projects with a team of fellow-thinkers at the Volunteers training center, students’ union and student scientific society.

University’s social infrastructure includes health care center, center for preventative medicine, health improvement camp, recreation camps and comprehensive support program for the poor students. All students, who need accommodation, are provided with an apartment in the dormitory.

Cultural center is open in Samara Polytech, which organizes annual student events: student spring festival, matriculation, student dancing party, contests Miss and Mister of SSTU, student day.

Meetings of student foreign delegations are organized as part of the summer schools on intercultural communication.

More than 40 sports clubs in 24 sports are open at the university. There are Olympic champions and world champions in various sports among students and graduates of Samara Polytech. University sport complex is used as the base for organizing regional, Russian and international sport competitions in swimming, boxing, basketball, etc.

Admission to Samara State Technical University for citizens of foreign countries is carried out on the basis of the results of entrance examinations, conducted by the university independently.

To prepare foreign citizens for admission to Russian universities, SSTU carries out educational activities on an additional general education program for training foreign citizens and stateless persons to learn professional educational programs in Russian language (profiles: natural science, engineering, medical and biological), additional general education program “Russian as a foreign language”.

As part of the additional general education program for training foreign citizens and stateless persons to learn professional educational programs in Russian language foreign listeners study Russian language as compulsory subject during 1 year (2 semesters). Besides, they have to choose 3 elective courses among Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Informatics, History of the Russian Federation and Principles of Russian Law, Social Studies, depending on the future field of study and the list of subjects for entrance tests. Total number of hours compiles 2376 hours, among which are 1008 class hours. Full time study. Tuition fee is 2200$ per year or the amount in rubles according to the rate of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation at the time of payment.

The period of study in the additional general education program “Russian as a foreign language” depends on the will of the listener. The maximum possible total number of hours is 1584, of which 684 are class hours. Full-time form of education. Tuition fee is calculated based on the number of training hours ordered by the students. 1 hour of classes costs $3 or the amount in rubles according to the rate of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation at the time of payment.

At the university students benefit from strong relationships with employers, ability to cooperate with other departments, scientific institutes and centers, which balance theoretical knowledge and their actual applications.

Particular pride for any university is its graduates. During its long history more than 200 thousand engineers, scientists, politicians graduated from SSTU, who are the pride and glory of Russia.  SSTU graduates are well-known all over the world.
