Southeast University, Dhaka (Bangladesh)

Recognizing the critical importance of higher education in fostering a happy and prosperous Bangladesh, a group of dedicated educationists and philanthropists came together to establish a private university committed to advancing knowledge and delivering quality education in a peaceful and conducive academic environment. Their efforts culminated in the founding of Southeast University (SEU) in June 2002, under the ‘Private University Act 1992’ and as amended in 1998. The Honorable President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh is the Chancellor of SEU.

From its inception, SEU has remained steadfast in its mission to utilize education as a means of serving society, operating without any commercial motives. Its establishment was a visionary response by its founders to the growing demand for modern, specialized education in Bangladesh. Today, SEU is recognized as one of the leading private universities in the country, with its remarkable growth in student enrollment and its commitment to providing high-quality education.

Located on an expansive campus in Tejgaon, SEU houses over 10 departments and serves more than 12,000 students across three academic schools: the School of Science and Engineering, Southeast Business School, and the School of Arts and Social Sciences. It now runs 16 programs, and will open 8 more programs soon. Despite its relatively recent establishment, SEU has emerged as one of the highest-ranked private universities in Bangladesh. Guided by its motto, Meeting the Challenges of Time the university is dedicated to offering modern education, practical learning opportunities, and robust research facilities.

SEU is committed to making higher education accessible and affordable, particularly to students from middle and lower-middle income families. By implementing a globally-aligned curriculum and regularly updating its programs to reflect contemporary needs, SEU strives to transform human resources into human capital. The university believes that excellence is achieved through dedication and perseverance and aims to groom up hardworking, ethical individuals capable of making meaningful contributions to society. Mission

To impart world-class education at an affordable cost keeping in view the economic conditions of the middle and lower-middle income families of Bangladesh, and instill among students moral and ethical values. The mission is detailed as under:

Strategies

The strategies of Southeast University (SEU) are guided by the objectives set by the Southeast University Trust. The primary objective is to provide quality education to young learners at an affordable cost, equipping them to effectively navigate the challenges of globalization. To achieve this, the university adopts well-considered policies and diligently implements them to fulfill its mission. SEU is committed to upholding excellence, expecting the highest standards of performance from both its students and faculty in their academic and extracurricular endeavors.

Goal and Scope

The primary goal of Southeast University (SEU) is to deliver outstanding modern education, equipping students with the skills and knowledge necessary to lead the nation's development journey. In addition, the university is committed to nurturing students with high moral standards. Under its charter, SEU is authorized to provide instruction and confer undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. It also has plans to introduce M. Phil and Ph.D. programs across a wide range of disciplines, including social sciences, law, language, engineering, agriculture, and medical sciences. Furthermore, the university has the authority to award diplomas, certificates, and other academic distinctions. With the approval of the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh, SEU may establish new schools of studies and institutions within its campus. The university operates under the governance of several statutory bodies, as mandated by the provisions of the Private University Act, 1992.
