About Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT)

1.  University Accrediting Body

SLIIT is a degree-awarding higher education institute authorized and approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and Ministry of Higher Education under the University Act of the Government of Sri Lanka. SLIIT is also the first Sri Lankan institute accredited by the Institution of Engineering & Technology, UK. Further, SLIIT is also a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) and the International Association of Universities (IAU).

2.   Brief Statement/Description of Institute (300 words)

SLIIT founded in 1999 as a non-state, not-for-profit higher education institute that has evolved rapidly from a single faculty to 05 faculties encompassing Faculty of Computing (offering programs in Information Technology, Computer Systems & Network Engineering, Interactive Media, Software Engineering, Cyber Security, Data Science, Information Systems Engineering), Faculty of Engineering (offering programs in Civil, Electrical & Electronic, Materials, Mechanical, Mechanical (Mechatronics) , Quantity Surveying), Faculty of Business (offering programs specializing in Accounting  & Finance, Business Analytics, Business Management, Human Capital Management,  Logistics & Supply Chain Management, Management Information Systems),  Faculty of Humanities & Sciences (offering programs in Biological Sciences, English, Physical Sciences, Biotechnology, Nursing, Psychology, Law, Education) Faculty of Graduate Studies & Research and One school; School of Architecture. SLIIT conducts study programs leading to degrees of Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral levels (currently Masters and Doctoral programs are conducted in the areas of Computing, Business, and Architecture only but would be extended to other areas in the near future). It has also an International Programs Unit coordinating and facilitating franchised and trans-national programs partnering with universities from Australia and United Kingdom. All its study programs emphasize Quality Assurance and imparting skills for the 21st century.

As for research at SLIIT, all its faculties carry out their research activities through their established research groups at faculty levels. SLIIT also extends financial support to its academic staff through an internal research grants scheme to initiate research, to attend local & international conferences and make scientific publications and also to subscribe to professional bodies. SLIIT has subscribed to several renowned e-resource databases such as IEEE Xplore, Emerald, ScienceDirect, etc. through its Library.

In view of Industry oriented activities, SLIIT encourages its staff to participate in industry-oriented research, secure external research funding, carry out consultancy work. SLIIT was among the first higher education institutes in the country to establish an active Industry Incubating eco-system within the campus premises. SLIIT has also established a SLIIT-Society Cell in order to promote, facilitate, coordinate and monitor industry-linked activities.
