About SRI VENKATESWARA UNIVERSITY
Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati, was established in 1954 in the world-famous holy temple town of Tirupati on the sprawling campus of 486 acres with a panoramic and pleasant hill view. The University stands as a testament to the wisdom and foresight of great visionaries, Late Sri Tanguturi Prakasam Pantulu, the then Chief Minister of Andhra, and Late Sri Neelam Sanjiva Reddy, who sought to cater to the educational needs and aspirations of the people of Rayalaseema. With great wisdom, the founder of this University has aptly coined the motto "Wisdom lies in proper perspective." Since its inception, the University has placed greater emphasis on teaching, research, and extension across a range of disciplines. The range of subject departments, courses, and research programs undertaken and promoted during the last 70 years reflects Sri Venkateswara University's commitment to promoting socially relevant and interdisciplinary programs. The University was started with six departments: Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Botany, Zoology, Economics, and Philosophy. The University has 5 constituent colleges offering a range of conventional and advanced subjects. The University has 54 departments, where 78 different PG programs and several Diploma and Certificate courses are being run with a total academic faculty strength of around 380 and 1450 non-teaching staff and a student strength of 5000, including research scholars. Several novels and newly emerging PG courses have also been introduced during this academic year. The University has been moving toward academic excellence with a strong commitment and a dedicated approach, clearly articulating its vision. The initiatives undertaken by the Honorable Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Tata Narasinga Rao, have already yielded excellent results in research funding and extension activities, keeping the University on the path to excellence. The University has made rapid strides in the field of higher education and research and is adjudged as one of the best Universities in the country, and was ACCREDITED with ‘A+’ GRADE BY NAAC-2017 and 2023.

- The University is also selected under RUSA component 4 for Rs. 100 crore. Under this program, Centers of Excellence in (i)Nano & Micro Satellite, (ii) Earth & Atmospheric Sciences, (iii)Material Sciences, (iv)VLP Technologies, (v) Herbal Drug Development, (vi) Psycho & Bio Sciences, (viii) Water Resources, and (ix) Bio Energy are established. The university has a National facility, the UGC-SVU Center for MST Radar Applications, which was selected under the UGC Center for Potential of Excellence in a particular area (CPEPA) and awarded the status of a Center for Advanced Study (UGC-CAS). Based on research output, the university was awarded the DST-PURSE program.
- Several departments have received Special Assistance Programs (SAPs) from UGC, New Delhi, and FIST programs to improve infrastructure. Most faculty members receive research grants from national and International funding agencies, including UGC, DST, DBT, CSIR, ICMR, ICSSR, BRNS, ISRO, and DRDO, as well as from foreign institutes, the European Commission Program ERASMUS MUNDUS.
- Sri Venkateswara University collaborated with the University of Hyderabad under the Anusandhan Research Foundation (ANRF) Partnerships for Accelerated Innovation and Research (PAIR) Program.
- The University's central library is the primary resource center for research students and faculty. It provides unlimited access to the UGC INFONET e-resources through the UGC INFONET Digital Library Consortium. One Nation One Subscription (ONOS) provides access to more than 13,000 journals from 30 publishers. Most departments have established departmental libraries through University grants from funding agencies. More than 4,000 PhD Theses have been digitized and uploaded to the Shodhganga database.
