The Technical University of Moldova (Universitatea Tehnică a Moldovei) is located in Chișinău, the capital of Republic of Moldova. TUM is the only one higher educational institution that offer engineering education in the main field as Energetic, Telecommunication, Computer and Nanotechnologies, Mechanic, Food technologies, Civil engineering, Architecture and Urban engineering. Besides engineering education, University provide specialized economic education and programs in cadaster law.
It was founded in 1964 under the name ‘The Polytechnic Institute of Chişinău ’. At that time the Polytechnic Institute of Chişinău had five faculties: Electronics, Mechanics, Technology, Construction and Economy, almost 5000 students and 300 persons-academic staff. In its more than 50 years of existence, the university has grown substantially, formed more than 78,000 engineers and economists and has become an important educational, scientific and cultural center.
From 1993 the institution was renamed into the Technical University of Moldova, today there are nine faculties: Electronics and Telecommunication, Energetics and Electrical Engineering, Computers, Informatics and Microelectronics, Food Technologies, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering and Transport, Textile and Poligraphy, Cadaster, Geodesy and Civil Engineering; Urbanism and Architecture, Economic Engineering and Business; about 9500 students and about 650 academic staff.
The University is offering full-time and part-time programs adjusted to the Bologna requirements: Cycle I, Bachelor - Cycle II, Master - Cycle III, Doctorate; has 5 research centers and 2 centers, that offer long-life learning programs.
The length and the number of ECTS differ on the field. For the Cycle I, Bachelor, the University is providing: engineering programs - 4/5 years, encountering 240 ECTS; economic/ fundamental sciences programs - 3/4 years, 180 ECTS. For the Cycle II, Master, the University is providing engineering programs - 1,5 years, encountering 90 ECTS; economic/ fundamental sciences programs - 2 years, 120 ECTS. For the Cycle II, Doctorate, the University is providing research programs for 3/4 years, encountering 180 ECTS. The University also provide integrated studies for Architecture, Bachelor and Master - 6 years, 360 ECTS.
The University has its own facilities as dormitories, sport centers, canteens.
