About Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt

With 8,600 students in total and 76 Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes, Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt (THI) is renowned for its practice-oriented teaching and pioneering research, both nationally and internationally. The university was founded in 1994 and employs roughly 900 staff, including 220 professors across six faculties: Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering and Management, Business School, and Sustainable Infrastructure. There are two terms: the winter term runs from 1 October to 14 March and summer term runs from 15 March to 30 September.

THI is home to CARISSMA, Germany’s leading scientific centre for vehicle safety, with 120 researchers, and AImotion Bavaria, the Bavarian AI mobility hub, with 110 researchers. This places the university at the forefront of applied research in Germany, as further confirmed by the latest Research Atlas of the German Research Foundation. In 2023, THI established its Doctoral School to benefit from synergies across its academic degrees Dr.-Ing., Dr. rer. nat., and Dr. phil.

THI is very internationally minded. It offers 22 Bachelor's and Master's programmes in English, with around 40 per cent of its students coming from abroad. Through strong partnerships with industry and around 180 academic institutions worldwide, the university fosters a dynamic and globally connected learning environment. All THI study programmes are accredited, and the THI Business School holds prestigious AACSB accreditation. The university’s motto, ‘Personalities and Innovations – for a Future Worth Living’, reflects its commitment to academic excellence and societal impact.
