About UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya
The inspiration behind the name of the university, Sunan Ampel, was from the eldest member of Indonesia's legendary "Nine Muslim Saints" (Walisanga), who is widely credited with peacefully transforming Islam throughout Java and the rest of the country. By bearing that name, the university has obligation to serve as the region’s and nation’s centre for Islamic civilization and moderation. The main value in developing our academic tradition and sociocultural change is the application of persuasive and harmonious approaches without harming the local environment or surrounds.
The institution offers an integrated curriculum that combines Islamic courses with secular sciences and humanities using the “integrated twin-towers” paradigm. Our university offers 60 study programs ranging from undergraduate to postgraduate studies, placing it in a good position to fulfil international standards and serve a global audience. We are also well-known for
fusing the paradigm of “university-community engagement” with the process of teaching and learning, research and societal empowerment.
