Although based in the city of Santiago de Querétaro, Querétaro, the Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro also has campuses around the state.

The Mexican public university’s main campus is located in Cerro de las Campanas, but there are also campuses in Amealco, Amazcala, Cadereyta, Jalpan, Juriquilla, San Juan del Río, and Tequisquiapan. It is the largest and most important university in both the state and the city of Queretaro.

Octavio S. Mondragón, then Governor of Querétaro, helped found the university in the form of a High School, Law School, and Engineering School in 1951 following the closure of the Civil School.

In 1952, the School of Chemistry and the School of Nursing were formed, followed by the Institute of Fine Arts in 1953, and the School of Commerce in 1954.

Faculties at the university consist of: Fine Art; Natural Sciences; Political and Social Sciences; Accounting and Administration; Law School; Nursing; Philosophy; Computing; Engineering; Languages and Letters; Medicine; Psychology; Chemistry.

Students can make the most of the university’s radio stations XHUAQ-FM 89.5, and XHPBQR-TDT, and TV station.

There are 1,431 academic staff, over 28,110 students (including high school), 19,666 university students of which 10 percent are post-grand and 90% are undergrad.

The Festival of Santiago de Querétaro is an annual arts and cultural event in the city for eight days during Holy Week.
