The Universidad Nacional del Litoral (UNL) is an institution based in Santa Fe, Argentina that was established in 1919. The university contains ten faculties offering both undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
Universidad Nacional del Litoral was established under National Act Nº 10.861, which was enacted on October 17th, 1919. The university is the result of the 1918 University Reform movement in Argentina, which advocated for the creation of democratic and self-governing institutions to provide free, open and public higher education. These ideas eventually spread to much of the rest of Latin America.
UNL is based in the province of Santa Fe, in the central area of Argentina. The university’s main building is located at 2750 Bv. Pellegrini Street, in the city of Santa Fe, but the university also has schools, institutes and faculties in nearby cities, namely Esperanza, Reconquista, Avellaneda, Gálvez, Rafaela and Sunchales. The city of Santa Fe is the historical site, the “center of gravity” of the university since it is here where most academic units can be found. The city of Esperanza is the link between the university and the rural cluster, whereas the cities of Reconquista, Avellaneda, Gálvez, Rafaela and Sunchales are growing into new areas of social and educational development with a strong regional impact. The University is made up of ten Faculties, two University Centers, a University Venue, a Higher Institute, three Middle Level Schools and a Primary Level School and Kindergarten. Careers belonging to different areas of scientific, humanistic, technical and cultural knowledge are dictated in each of the academic units, which are consubstantiated with the problems of the region where the University is inserted. In Santa Fe the UNL has a University City where it concentrates a large part of its academic, sports and recreational activity. Nearly 50 percent of all University students attend there every day. This space has parking lots, checkpoints and bus stops, bike paths and recreational spaces. On the west sector is the Ecological Reserve and the UNL-ATE Estate where the University Dining Room and the Health Center work. This urban complex is made up of the following buildings and areas: –Faculty of Biochemistry and Biological Sciences (FBCB) –Faculty of Medical Sciences (FCM) –Faculty of Engineering and Water Sciences (FICH) –Faculty of Humanities and Sciences (FHUC) –Faculty of Architecture, Design and Urbanism (FADU) -Superior Institute of Music (ISM) - Superior School of Health (ESS) -National Institute of Limnology (INALI) -Hydraulic Laboratory -Common lecturer for the academic units of the University City In the city of Santa Fe there are also the Faculty of Economic Sciences (FCE), the Faculty of Legal and Social Sciences (FCJS), which shares the Rectorate building, and the Faculty of Chemical Engineering (FIQ), with shares the building with the Higher Industrial School, the Secondary School, the primary and initial, and the Language Center. In Esperanza, the University has the headquarters of two of its faculties: Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Sciences (FCA and FCV). Both, together with a complex service infrastructure, make up the Fave Campus, where academic, scientific, sports , leisure activities take place and a university canteen headquarters. The School of Agriculture, Livestock and Farm (EAGG) is located in the city as well. The Reconquista-Avellaneda University Center (CURA), in Reconquista, the Gálvez University Center (CUG) in Gálvez, and the Rafaela/Sunchales Headquarters (Sede RS) in Rafaela, are part of the UNL and operate in the región.
There are 14 institutes of double dependency articulated with the National Council for Scientific and Technological Research (CONICET), whose objective is to carry out research in different disciplinary fields, train human resources and transfer the results of research to the socio-productive sector. https://www.unl.edu.ar/investigacion/institutos-unl-conicet/
