The program aims at training PhDs with strong scientific and professional skills in design, modeling, and simulation, coupled with a deep cultural, technical, and managerial knowledge of Engineering in general, and of Civil, Hydraulic, and Building Engineering, Computational Mechanics, and Architecture in particular. Moreover, the transversal expertise, nowadays necessary to tackle advanced problems, implies the importance of a focus also on Industrial Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Biomechanics, and Materials Science.  The program aims at providing students with the ability to manage research projects autonomously, offering collaborative and integrated research models based also on the exchange of experiences and knowledge with international research groups and industries. The goal is to train researchers ready for managerial roles in industrial and academic advanced research sectors, with highly qualified skills in at least one of the thematic areas listed above. PhDs are therefore expected to be increasingly demanded for innovative industrial R&D departments. This is due to the main added-value of the program: A full immersion in the world of research in a state-of-the-art international and highly competitive environment, characterized by the ability to generate innovation, as well as to promote and carry out new initiatives. In addition to R&D in industries and engineering companies, career opportunities in research centers and universities are another natural option for our PhDs.
