The PhD programme in Physics aims at training highly qualified researchers, with excellent career prospects in Universities, public and private research bodies, high technology industries, various types of companies like spin-offs, medical, financial, consulting, etc. The course is organized in three curricula:
  1. Physics of matter
  2. Physics of fundamental interactions
  3. Interdisciplinary and applied physics, including biomedical physics, energy, ICT, environment.
The educational activity of the programme includes courses, attendance to seminars and colloquia, seminars by the students. This activity gives high value to the cultural unity of physics in fundamental research as well as in multidisciplinary and applied fields. It is also aimed at the acquisition of transferable skills that can be spent in any professional environment requiring capability of problem solving, sense of initiative, creativity, autonomy, attitude to teamwork, project management. Training and research activities are closely related, they are conducted in a strongly international framework thanks to collaborations with research centers (e.g. CERN, INFN, CNAO) and with foreign universities. All activities of the PhD are in English.

Admission Requirements

Applicants may apply for a PhD program without nationality restrictions if, at the cut-off date of the call for applications, they have obtained one of the following degrees:
·      Bachelor’s degree obtained according to the relevant regulations before the entry into force of Ministerial Decree no. 509/1999
·      Specialization degree (Ministerial Decree no. 509/1999)
·      Master’s degree (Ministerial Decree no. 270/2004) or eligible foreign qualification.
