The institution was originally established in 2013 as STIKes Prima Jambi, focusing on health sciences education. In 2017, based on the Decree of the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia No. 495/KPT/I/2017, the institution officially transformed into Universitas Adiwangsa Jambi (UNAJA).
