About Universitas Islam Negeri Sumatera Utara
Universitas Islam Negeri Sumatera Utara (UIN SU) Medan is one of the best state universities in Indonesia, located in Medan, North Sumatra. The history of the birth of UIN SU is a long journey from the birth and dynamics of a higher education institution which previously still had 'institute' status, namely the Institut Agama Islam Negeri (IAIN) Sumatera Utara.
Through the struggle of its founder on November 19,1973, it was officially established under the name of the Institut Agama Islam Negeri (IAIN) Sumatera Utara., marked by the reading of the charter by the Minister of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia, Prof. Dr. H. Mukti Ali.
In its development, IAIN Sumatera Utara has implemented the Public Service Agency (BLU) Financial Management Pattern based on the Decree of the Minister of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia Number 76/KMK.05/2009, dated 13 March 2009 concerning the designation of IAIN Sumatera Utara in the Department of Religion as a Government Agency that implements the Management Pattern Public Service Agency Finance. Then, in the Decree of the Minister of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia Number 117 of 2009 concerning the Appointment of Financial Management Officials for Public Service Agencies, IAIN Sumatera Utara now has PK BLU status.
Furthermore, in the 2000s, the development of IAIN Sumatera Utara entered a new phase marked by a transition from a wider mandate to scientific integration. In the philosophy of scientific integration, all knowledge is seen as everything that comes from God which is manifested in the form of Kauniyah verses and Qauliyah verses. Along with this, the scientific study pattern of IAIN Sumatera Utara is no longer limited to mono-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary, but has developed into inter-disciplinary and trans-disciplinary.
During the leadership of the Rector Prof. Nur A.Fadhil Lubis, MA, the transfer of IAIN SU's status to the Universitas Islam Negeri Sumatera Utara (UIN SU) Medan has been approved by Presidential Decree No. 131/2014 dated 16 October 2014 by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY).
UIN SU Medan has developed into a superior university that offers various quality study programs.
